This section
will help your pupils understand how electricity is transferred from
power station to the home.
MAIN
TEACHING POINTS
Electricity
is sent around the country via overhead electricity lines. It travels
at very high voltage - more than 1,000 times greater than the voltage
used in the home
The high
voltages are reduced before reaching the home via electricity sub-stations.
In built-up
areas or near airports, electricity is carried underground - but at
a higher cost.
